Diarrhoea initially described as large volume, soggy but formed. Now it is lighter and watery.Owner has observed reddish colour.Defecating multiple times per day, which is an increase in frequency.Darla has been observed straining.Parasite Prevention: Worming treatment dueCurrent Diet: Normal diet is RC dry food. Currently on a bland diet of rice, with reduced portion sizes.EXAMINATION:Demeanour/Behaviour: Bright and alert, friendly.Oral: mm pink moist, good refill: grade 0LN ;lnone palpable. Cardiovascular: Heart rate 98 bpm, cardiac auscultation normal, no murmur audible.Respiratory: thoracic auscultation clear, normal BV sounds.Gastrointestinal:- Abdominal: Mildly tense on palpation, no detectable pain, no thickening or firm masses palpable.- Large bowel diarrhoea with straining.Body Condition Score: 6/9Weight: 25.3kgHydration status (%): well hydratedTemperature: 38.5°CASSESSMENT:Acute large bowel diarrhoea (colitis) in two cohabiting dogs.Clinical signs include increased frequency, straining, mucus, and fresh blood in stool.Examination findings are largely unremarkable. The cause is likely dietary indiscretion, given the history and that both dogs are affected.TREATMENT:Pro-Kolin+ 5ml orally twice daily for 3 days for each dog.PLAN and CLIENT COMMUNICATION:Continue with a bland diet (their normal dry food with some rice), fed in small, frequent meals.
