Appointment Notes: Client has seen Ermington vet & is currently awaiting skin culture results. O wanting to see Beth as she trust her & she treated her dog's skin issue very qucikly. She was very late for the consultation. The clinical appearance of the lesions is consistent with Urticaria pigmentosa – mast cell collections in the skin.  I have sent cytology to our clinical pathologist and if she mast cells then biopsy is not required. In the last one to two weeks she has developed red itch papules on her back.  Normally I would write a detailed discharge letter but as you were quite late for the consult, I will be brief.The lesions are consistent with a condition seen in this breed called Urticaria pigmentosa. I have sent samples from the skin surface to our pathologist to see if the characteristic cells (mast cells) are present.  If they are not seen, and the PCR for ringworm from your vets is negative, we shall schedule anesthesia and biopsy.Once the diagnosis is confirmed we would begin treatment with cortisone.I shall call you once I have the results of cytology within a week.
