Owner suspects a possible foreign body (prickle) in a paw or a strain from being chased by dogs at the beach earlier today. was running normally at the beach.eddu normal, no v/dMedications: Owner administered one dose of leftover meloxicam 1.5 hours prior to presentation.Diet: Eating normally. Allergy to chicken.Environmental history: Small backyard. No recent travel.Objective:Physical examination findings: toe tapping lame on LEFT hind. Palpation reveals pain on flexion of digit one of LEFT hind. No evidence of a cruciate injury. No foreign bodies (e.g., grass seeds) noted in the paws. nsf stifle or hipsrest of legs nadheart and lungs NADAssessment & Plan:1. Toe Injury (Suspected soft tissue sprain/fracture)Assessment: Acute toe injury, likely a soft tissue sprain. can't rule out fracture.Recommended diagnostic tests: X-rays to be performed if no improvement with conservative management.Treatment plan:  - Meloxicam prescribed for pain and inflammation. To be given once daily with food. First dose tomorrow morning (06/03/2026) at approximately 4 am.  - Strict rest advised. No walks, no jumping.  - Monitor for licking at the affected area; if this occurs, an Elizabethan collar may be considered to prevent secondary infection.Follow-up care: Re-evaluate if no improvement. Gabapentin can be added for additional pain relief if required.
