Appointment Reason: Diarrhoea, Appointment Notes: PetDesk Booking - - Fito (Dog) - Louis Diamond - Consultation [Veterinarian : Dr Katie Taylor(No Preference)] - Diarrhoea for about 3 days. Medication not helping. -Web BookingClient name: Louis DiamondContact number: 0423055994Email address: louis.diamond@gmail.comPatient name: Fito Original Appointment Type: ConsultationSubjective:- C/O diarrhoea for approximately 4 days with 2-3 nights of very runny stools. Usually holds bowel movements until morning but has been having accidents overnight.- Stools were slightly improved yesterday during the day but worsened again overnight with a significant mess, and this afternoon there was also a mess from multiple bouts during the day - No blood in stool. No pain reported.- In himself, Fito is well - playful with the other dog and displaying normal behaviour including being mischievous.- Appetite retained throughout.- Hx of Giardia as a puppy (around May/June 2024) - diagnosed via faecal microscopy by Dr Miriam during puppy school, treated with antibiotics which resolved symptoms.- Recently changed wet food to Pedigree soft food for puppies approximately 7 dats ago. Symptoms began around halfway through the new wet food supply. Other dog also had transient diarrhoea which resolved.- Pro-Kolin paste commenced on Sunday without clear improvement initially, though stools were slightly better yesterday during the day.- Stopped the new wet food.- Dry food: complete pellet brand from Coles, mixed shapes - has been on this for ages.- Parasite prevention: Simparica given monthly, usually around the 7th - due this week.Past Medical History:- Previous Giardia infection as a puppy (May/June 2024) treated with antibiotics.- Previous otitis externa (non-infectious dermatitis) on 28/10/2025 treated with Elocon lotion 1% topical ear drops.Objective:- BCS: good, not overweight or underweight.- Abdominal palpation: NAD, no pain or discomfort.- HR: WNL.- Temperature: checked, no fever.- Faecal microscopy: no Giardia seen, normal bacteria and digested food particles only. Does not exclude Giardia infection as organism is intermittently shed.Assessment:- Acute enteritis - possible dietary indiscretion vs Giardia vs other pathogen. Giardia less likely given negative faecal smear but not excluded.Plan:- Conservative management recommended given Fito is well, eating, and not deteriorating.- Advised to avoid antibiotics if possible due to long-term effects on gut microbiome - recovery of gut bacteria takes 6 monthsfollowing antibiotic use.- Continue Pro-Kolin paste (OTC) - can be purchased without consultation in future.- GI rest with easy to digest, nutrient-dense food: provided sensitivity GI diet (tin) - feed quarter tin per meal, continue for 1-1.5/7 then reintroduce regular diet if improving.- Advised to feed earlier in the day (e.g., 4pm instead of 6pm) to allow final bowel movement before bedtime.- Fibre supplementation recommended: psyllium fibre (plain Metamucil, unflavoured) or cooked mashed pumpkin.- Recovery may take up to 2 weeks with some fluctuation in stool consistency expected. Advised that deeper investigation into uncomplicated diarrhoea is not warranted until enough time for self-recovery has passed (usually 10-14 days) - This advice CHANGES if Fito becomes unwell, loses weight, develops bloody diarrhoea, fever, or stops eating.- Contact clinic if concerns arise or if cannot cope with the diarrhoea during recovery peiod
