Reason: Ripped Dew ClewHistory: Was at the park chasing the ball, running around then stopped yelped and held up the paw Used to be alright with the owners clipping the claws but does not let the owners do it anymore Licking at it once got home from the park, walked home from the park okay. Sulking and not herself Examination: Unable to properly examine concious as hiding under bench and shaking - very very worried and not wanting to push Torn dew claw on the LFL can see torn to level of quick - unable to palpate Remainder of nails also longPink with normal respiratory rate and effort Assessment: Dew claw causing pain - recommend sedation for removal of nail +/- bandage placement vs e-collar to prevent licking to avoid secondary infectionTreatment: Consent has been given by the client to proceed with this treatment - YesSedated with 0.2mg/kg methadone + 10mcg/kg medetomidine IM with owner - topped up with additional 10mcg/kg medetomadine to facilitate trimming the broken dew clawDew claw broken at the level of the quick but firmly attached - trimmed back to the breakBandage placed with melonin, softban, vetwrap and elastiplast to prevent licking Reversed medetomadine with 0.4ml atipamazole IM Plan:Have dispensed metacam SID as needed for pain at home Bandage off monday - use e-collar as needed to stop licking the paw Monitor for any redness, swelling or discharge around the nailBandage can be removed at home or with reg vet if preferred Vital Signs
