PROCEDURE: Castration

ANAESTHESIA:
Pre-med: Gabapentin 400mg PO + Methadone 0.3mg/kg and Midazolam 0.2mg/kg IM
20G  catheter placed R cephalic
Induction: Ketamine/Diaze isometric (0.75ml each) + Propofol 10ml slow IV, to effect
Maintenance: Isoflurane, size 10.5 ET tube, cuff inflated and tube secured
Anaesthesia and recovery uneventful

SURGERY:
The surgical site was clipped and aseptically prepared.
Local blocks using Lignocaine 20: 1ml prescrotal subcut  + 1ml intratesticular into each testicle. 
A pre scrotal incision was made through skin and subcutaneous tissue. 
An open castration was performed. 
The R and L spermatic cords were each ligated with an encircling ligature of  2/0 Monopolus and transected distally. 
The tunica was enclosed with a transfix ligature of 2/0 Monoplus.
The subcutaneous tissue was close with 3/0 Monosyn in a simple continuous pattern. The skin was closed with 3/0 Monosyn intradermal sutures.

Post-operative medication:
Melox 0.2mg/kg sc

TGH
Melox 0.1mg/kg PO sid 
E-collar 

POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:


Dexter has been a lovely patient while in hospital with us at Bundoora Vet Clinic.

Today he was desexed.

Please keep him quiet and confined over the next 10 days while he is recovering and if he is licking at his wound please have him wear the plastic collar provided. Please read the aftercare instructions provided.

Please give the pain relief provided as directed on the label.

Please book him back to us for a recheck in 3-4 days. He has internal stitches that do not require removal.
