INTERPRETATION:Evidence of moderate neutrophil and eosinophil rich inflammation and mucus hypersecretion.COMMENTS:Eosinophilic and neutrophilic inflammation in cats can be seen with feline bronchial disease/asthma (this is possible with the presentation), but it is also may be of value to exclude parasitic infections particularly heartworm, lungworm infection, migrating parasitic infection and rarely fungal or other infection. Consider Baermann faecal examination or trial therapy. PCR to exclude opportunistic pathogens such as Mycoplasma spp. and culture should also be considered.CYTOPATHOLOGIC DESCRIPTION:The aspirates contains a background of thick basophilic mucus and a moderate number of moderately preserved cells. The cells are mostly macrophages with a lower number of neutrophils and eosinophils and occasional small lymphocytes. Infectious agents are not observed.
