Consult notes
11/03/2026 Presenting concerns:

1. Ears
Owner reported the dog has been shaking the head intermittently. Previously seen at Empire Bay Vet for ear-related concerns. Requested ear check.

2. Mobility / Orthopaedic concerns
Owner reported several changes in mobility over approximately the past year, including:
Crossing the back legs while walking
Difficulty getting into the car
“Wiggling” or swaying of the hindquarters during walking
Slower to return when chasing a ball
Difficulty getting up after long naps
No known history of orthopaedic surgery or trauma.
Currently receiving 4Cyte supplement.
Previously had Zydax injections, however the owner reported minimal improvement with this treatment.

3. Dental check
Owner requested dental assessment.
No difficulty chewing hard food or treats
No significant halitosis reported
No previous dental procedures

Handling considerations:
Ann advised that the dog can be aggressive towards males, possibly related to a previous traumatic experience. Due to this, she requested that the ear examination and dental check be performed under sedation for safety and to allow a thorough assessment.

Plan discussed:
Perform sedation to allow proper ear and dental examination
Consider hip and spine radiographs to investigate the hindlimb gait changes and mobility issues.
