Smelt anal gland scent at home HISTORY:- Presenting for tail chewing for an extended period.- Owner suspects anal gland issues due to a noticeable odour recently.- No scooting observed.- PMHx: Sensitive gut, managed with a specialised diet (Lipro). Intolerant to legumes. Previous malodour/halitosis resolved after ceasing a dehydrated raw food diet.- Allergies: None known.EXAMINATION:Demeanour: BAREyes: Bright and clear with no dischargeEars: Clean with no discharge or foul odourOral: Mild plaque on upper carnassial teeth. Potential underlying skin sensitivity/allergy contributing to pruritus.PLAN:- Monitor for resolution of tail chewing over the next 2-3 days following anal gland expression.- Advised that if the behaviour persists, it indicates an underlying trigger, likely an allergy, which would require further investigation and long-term management.- Discussed using an Elizabethan collar (cone) to prevent licking/chewing in the short term, but owner has concerns due to Marley's vision in one eye.- Suggested applying an oatmeal-based conditioner to the tail to soothe irritation.- Instructed to start toothbrushing to manage mild plaque build-up.- Recheck if no improvement or if symptoms worsen.
