Reason:  Look At Nails And Trim As Much As PossibleAppointment Notes: Wants to chat to vet about if quick too long can we sedate trim and cautarise?  - ISHistory: Been licking paws ++, sensitive about nails since injured claw LF? Owner has nail dremmel at home but struggles with black nails, has been told at PH vet (apparently) that sedating him and 'quicking' the claws may reduce the length of the quick. Wanting second opinionExamination: BAR, good condition generally, gained a bit of weight, claws are quite long and black - turning sideways due to length. Nurse trimmed claws as short as possible with myself holding (did not make any bleed on purpose but two did unfortunately) - he makes a lot of noise (screaming) but no aggression at this stage so didn't need to muzzle.Assessment: Explained to owner that holding and clipping claws when Gus is getting distressed is traumatic for him and the staff and best avoided as will escalate each time. There is no evidence as far as I have read that 'quicking' does anything other than cause open wounds on the claws that get could get infected and is not recommended.Plan: Some evidence that weekly dremmel of the claws may cause the nail quick to gradually recede over time if done over months/years consistently. This seems like a much nicer option for Gus so recommend this. Advised that licking paws is likely unrelated to nails and caused by allergic dermatitis. Can try zyrtek    Vital Signs    Weight: 8.8;
