O to collect meds from reception. Owner communicationO cancelled appointment for more tests on 25/3 and left msg to request antibiotics. CB called O: - Patient progress: On last day of steroid course. Owner reports condition has worsened since reducing steroids, with increased cough frequency. Cough is reportedly worse at night. Still productive, with no change in fluid volume and still clear fluid produced. Eating, drinking, and sleeping patterns are reported as normal. CB could hear dog coughing and breathing heavily in background of phone call. - Advice or information provided to the client: Discussed the risks of a trial antibiotic course without a definitive diagnosis. Explained that antibiotics may not be effective and could delay necessary diagnostic testing. Advised that I am very worried about Bailey, he is very sick, and if Bailey's condition deteriorates further, anaesthesia for future tests may become unsafe. Also noted that antibiotic use can interfere with certain tests, particularly for identifying infections. I discussed the alternative option of coming in now/this week via our emergency team to have Bailey reassessed and have more tests done more quickly, O declined and would still like to try antibiotics. Advised that if his condition worsens, he should be seen as an emergency.- Next steps or follow-up actions: Dispensed one week of antibiotics for collection from reception. A recheck examination has been scheduled for one week's time to assess response to treatment before deciding on continuing the course or pursuing further diagnostics, as I remain very concerned about Bailey and possibility of deterioration. O opted for recheck at VRH in a week rather than primary vet. I discussed with O that if antibiotics are working, a longer course would be needed, but we should try first for a week and reassess (including a vet examination), because Bailey is very unwell and I remain very concerned about him. Instructed owner to fast Bailey from midnight the night before the appointment (water permitted) and to withhold the morning dose of antibiotics on the day of the recheck. Cost of antibiotics for one week is $101.- Date and time of next scheduled communication: Recheck appointment booked for 18/03/2026 at 11:30 am. O to contact emergency team if any deterioration in the meantime. Vital Signs
