He ate some soil in the afternoon, which is a common behaviour for him. Examination revealed mild ataxia and a mild limp. No significant abnormalities were detected on physical examination. Gastroenteritis is suspected.TREATMENT:Maropitant 1mg/kg SCMethadone 0.2mg/kg SCPLAN:Home into owner's care.Monitor clinical signs. If vomiting persists, diarrhoea develops, or there is no response to medication, re-presentation is recommended. Abdominal imaging may be required if signs do not resolve.CLIENT COMMUNICATION:Discussed suspected gastroenteritis as the cause for the clinical signs. Advised that some dogs can appear ataxic due to abdominal discomfort. Instructed on the administration of anti-nausea medication and pain relief. Advised to monitor for persistent vomiting or the development of diarrhoea. The owner was informed that if Ollie does not improve, further diagnostics such as abdominal imaging would be the next step.
