DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS/ DIAGNOSIS:- Dietary-induced gastroenteritis- Foreign body obstruction (less likely as still eating)- Parvovirus (unlikely given vaccination status) DIAGNOSTICS:None ASSESSMENT: The clinical signs are most consistent with acute gastroenteritis, likely secondary to recent dietary changes. Other differentials such as a foreign body or infectious causes like parvovirus are considered less likely at this stage. The patient is clinically stable on examination. TREATMENT: - An anti-nausea injection was offered.- Prescription gastrointestinal diet (canned food) dispensed for 3-5 days.- Advised a slow transition back to normal food once symptoms have resolved. PLAN:- Strict dietary management for the next 3-5 days with the prescribed diet.- Monitor for resolution of clinical signs.- Re-evaluation if symptoms worsen or fail to improve.- Home into owner's care. CLIENT COMMUNICATION:Discussed the likely cause of the clinical signs being dietary indiscretion. Advised that a foreign body is a less likely but serious differential, with inappetence being a key red flag. Explained the plan for dietary management with a prescription diet for 3-5 days, followed by a gradual reintroduction of the normal diet. Emphasised the importance of all family members adhering strictly to the new diet with no other food items. Discussed the costs of consultation ($53) and prescription food (approx. $25 for 3 cans). Advised that the prescription diet is available at pet stores if more is required. Instructed the owner to seek further veterinary care if there is no improvement, or if vomiting, lethargy, or inappetence develops.
