Subjective- The owner returned home ths moring from night shift and found that the 9.3kg Dachshund had consumed 171g milk chocolate Easter eggs approximately 1.5 hours prior to her returning home.- The amount consumed was calculated to be a toxic dose using the MSD chocolate toxicity calculator. 393mg Theobromine (42mg/kg) consumed.Objective- Demeanour: Bright, alert, responsive. H 4+.- HR: 132 bpm, RR: 36 bpm, MM p/m, CRT < 2 sec.- BCS: 7/9, Hydration: Clinically adequate.- Exam:  - Cardiovascular: Normal auscultation, no murmur or arrhythmia.  - Respiratory: Thoracic auscultation clear bilaterally, normal respiratory effort.  - Oral: No tartar an plaque, no gingivitis. Grade 0 dental disease.  - Abdominal: Non-painful on palpation. NAD.  - Musculoskeletal: Ambulating normally, no pain on palpation.  - Integument/Ears: Ears clean, skin unremarkable.  - Other systems: Neurologically, lymph nodes, eyes all NSF.Assessment- Chocolate toxicity.- No signs of toxicity, no cardiovascular effects, no GI effects, no nervous system effect. However Plan- Emesis induction: - Apomorphine 2.4 mg administered subcutaneously; induced nausea but no emesis. - A further apomorphine tablet was administered via the conjunctival sac of the left eye. - Successful emesis induced, with a large volume of food ingesta, chocolate, and foil wrappers produced.- Post-emesis care: - Left eye flushed thoroughly with saline. - Maropitant 0.93 mL administered subcutaneously.- Hospitalisation: - Intravenous fluid therapy with Hartmann's solution initiated at a double maintenance rate until 12:30, then reduced to 1.5 times maintenance until 3:30pm, and then maintenance until discharge at 5pm. - Activated charcoal 10 g to be administered four times a day (three doses in-hospital, one at home). - Recommended blood tests to assess renal function on Friday (14/03/2026) or Monday (17/03/2026). - The owner was advised to schedule an appointment for this and seek ER vet care if any signs of toxicity develop over he next few days.
