Reason: Sore EarNote: If mometasone furoate 0.1% lotion then good to dispense some PMP 20ml lotionHISTORY:  Presenting for scratching at the left ear for approximately one day. The owner reports this is the typical start of an ear infection for Coco. Prone to recurrent otitis, approximately annually. The owner has observed scratching the ear and then sniffing the paw, which is a characteristic sign for Coco. The owner is concerned about the condition progressing as they are going on holiday in 1.5 weeks and a new pet sitter will be caring for Coco. Previous episodes have responded well to approximately 10 days of ear drops. Mild pedal dermatitis3. History of recurrent, possibly seasonal, otitis DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS/ DIAGNOSIS:1. Allergic otitis externa DIAGNOSTICS:AU: cytology NIL ASSESSMENT:Coco presented with signs of early left-sided otitis. Examination revealed mild inflammation and a scant waxy discharge in the left ear canal. Cytology did not show evidence of an infectious cause (yeast or bacteria), suggesting an early inflammatory or allergic flare-up. Mild interdigital erythema was also noted. The presentation is consistent with a flare-up of allergic skin disease. TREATMENT:  script eloconRx: Mometasone Furoate 0.1% lotion Mitte: 30ml Directions: Draw up and administer 1ml into the LEFT ear ONCE a day for 7 days. NO REPEATS KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN FOR ANIMAL TREATMENT ONLY- Apply 1 mL to the left ear (pinna and canal) once daily for 7 days.- A small amount can also be applied to the red spots between the digits once daily for 7 days.The ears were cleaned in the clinic. PLAN:- Owner to start treatment with Advantan lotion as prescribed.- If the condition worsens or does not improve by Saturday (14/03/2026), the owner can collect medicated ear drops without a re-consultation. A note has been left on file.- The clinic will be closed for renovations for four weeks from the end of Saturday, operating out of North Lakes and Murrumba Downs clinics during this period.- Owner declined long-term maintenance therapy with Elocon once weekly at this stage.  CLIENT COMMUNICATION:Discussed that the current issue is inflammation (allergic flare-up) rather than a true infection. Explained the use of Advantan steroid lotion to reduce inflammation. Advised that the bottle contains 30mL and to use 1mL per day for 7 days. Instructed on application to both the external ear flap and down into the canal, as well as on the affected paw. Discussed the plan to reassess on Saturday if no improvement, at which point medicated drops could be dispensed. Explained clinic closure for renovations and alternative locations.
