admitted for ratsack ingestion.Male owner bought dog in. His wife reports Pepper has ingested ratsack between 8:50am and 9:20am this morning. Male owner was at work, is unsure if its pellets or block ratsack, is unsure of active ingredient, and is unsure how much may have been consumed.Ate breakfast this morning at 7:30am.Owner is dropping dog off, he needs to return to work. We are to contact female owner to discuss pick up time.Owner signed consent form to induce vomiting, gave estimate.Briefly mentioned may need Vit K course, or a follow up blood test in 2-3 days time - to discuss with female owner later.BAR. MM pink, CRT <2s. HR 140.Induced vomiting - gave apomorphine 1/2 tablet into right eye lower conjunctiva.Vomiting within 5mins.Vomited up small amount of digested dog food and a few piece of grass. No evidence of rat bait, either pellets or pieces, or colouration, in the vomitus.Flushed eye with salineGave cerenia 1.1ml SQ (vocalised post injection)Tried to call owner at 10:47am, left a voice mesage for owner to call back.Given no evidence of ratbait in the vomitus, dog either did not ingest any of the bait, or it has already absorbed (unlikely given there was food in the stomach).Options include:1- check clotting with PT/aPTT in 2-3 days time, cost $136.60.2- gave a prophylactic Vit K course for 4 wks (50mg 1/2 BID), then check clotting 48hrs after finishing course.Owner called back at 10:55am. Spoke to RB. Owner advised that Pepper chewed into a bag of ratsack pellets (blue/green colour pellets) between 8:50am and 9:20am this morning. The owner found a hole in the bag, pellets on the ground and maybe 3 chewed up pellets. Owner reports it was a full bag, has collected all the pellets and says apart from the chewed pellets doesn't appear to be any missing.Advised owner that there was no evidence of ratbait pellets, or blue/green colour, in the vomitus. If she did chew the pellets, it doesn't appear that she ingested any. Risk of mucosal absorption from chewing the pellets would be low.Gave options- either 4wk Vit K course as prophylactic, or check clotting factors in 48-72hours. Owner is electing to check clotting factors in 48-72hrs. Booked in for Friday at 3pm.Advised to keep dog quite for next 3 days, no running around, no exercise. Monitor urine and faeces for any blood, if present to revisit asap. If any lethargy or coughing to revisit asap.Owner will pick dog up about lunch time.
