Reason: Excessive SneezingAppointment Notes: Overdue reminders  ------- Sms reply: YHISTORY:Gus presented for assessment of paroxysmal sneezing episodes and for an anal gland check. The owner reports that for the last 2 weeks, Gus has been having bouts of sneezing, occurring 10 to 15 times per day. These episodes typically happen when he changes position, such as standing up after lying down, and can involve 15 to 20 sneezes in a row. There has been no associated nasal or ocular discharge. The owner also notes that the sneezing can sometimes sound like a cough. Gus is otherwise well in himself.A discussion was also had regarding desexing, as Gus is approaching 12 months of age. The owner has noted a recent increase in humping behaviour over the last 2 to 3 weeks, primarily directed at his toys. He is not marking or showing aggression.Gus's anal glands were last expressed two months ago.Current meds: noneProphylaxis: Monthly worming tablet. Due for next dose. Plan to transition to Proheart SR-12 and annual C5 vaccination at 12 months of age.Pre-existing conditions: History of requiring regular anal gland expression.Access to toxins eg. Rodenticide: noneTRIAGE:Mentation: Bright, alert, responsive.EXAMINATION:Body Condition Score: 5/9Pain Scale (0-4): 0/4Hydration status (%): hydration clinically adequateCardiovascular: cardiac auscultation normal, normal rhythm, pulse pressures normal and synchronousRespiratory: thoracic auscultation clear sounds bilaterally, respiratory effort normal, no nasal discharge. Mild tracheal sensitivity noted on palpation.Neurological: neurologically no significant findingsMusculoskeletal: ambulating normally, no palpable neck, spine, limb or joint painGastrointestinal:- Oral: 0- Abdominal: no detectable pain on abdominal palpation, no palpable organomegaly or mass lesions noted- Rectal: Anal glands were bilaterally full but expressed easily.Urinary: NSFReproductive: 2 testicles descendedIntegument/Ears: NSFLymph Nodes: NSFEyes: NSFLABORATORY:NoneASSESSMENT:The paroxysmal sneezing and tracheal sensitivity are suggestive of a mild, self-limiting upper respiratory tract infection, such as canine infectious respiratory disease complex (kennel cough). Allergies are also a possible differential. The recent onset of humping behaviour is likely related to sexual maturity. The anal glands were full but non-impacted and expressed without difficulty.TREATMENT:Anal glands were manually expressed.PLAN:The owner was advised that the sneezing is likely due to a mild respiratory virus that should self-resolve within a couple of weeks. It was recommended to keep Gus isolated from other dogs (e.g., no dog park visits) during this time to prevent potential transmission. If the sneezing persists or worsens in two weeks, a re-assessment is recommended.It was recommended to wait until Gus is closer to 12 months of age for castration, as there are benefits to delaying the procedure in larger breed dogs and his current behavioural issues are minor.A plan was made to recheck the anal glands in three months' time, at the time of his desexing, to establish a suitable interval for expression.Bookings were made for the following:1. Pre-anaesthetic health check and blood test scheduled for Wednesday, 10/06/2026 at 4:30 PM.2. Castration, Proheart SR-12 injection, and BQ booked for Friday, 26/06/2026. Admission is at 7:40 AM with a tentative discharge time of 4:00 PM. The owner was advised that Dr Kerry will likely be the veterinarian performing the procedure.--- 10/03/2026 10:46:14 AM TLE:Examinations - Resolved - recall txt msg sent    Vital Signs    Weight: 7;
