Presents with head flapping and shaking. A squelching sound is noted when the ear is scratched. Owner has been using an over-the-counter ear cleaning solution at home, but not regularly. No other clinical signs noted by owner, not itchy elsewhere.Adverse reaction noted to a six-monthly Bravecto spot-on flea/tick preventative (10-20kg dose for a 10kg dog). The product was dispensed in error instead of the usual three-monthly chewable. Signs included lethargy and depigmentation/flaking of the skin on the nasal planum, which is now healing. Owner advised the ear may appear oily. Advised to gently wipe the ear but not to use other cleaners during treatment.Discussed re-check if not 100% resolved at the end of the course.Discussed long-term management options to prevent recurrence, including prophylactic use of Cortavance spray (+ antifungal) once weekly after the current infection has resolved, or increasing the frequency of routine ear cleaning to weekly/fortnightly.
