The owner reports picky eating behaviour and intermittent diarrhoea over the last few days. The appetite has been inconsistent; for about two days he would not eat, then he ate when hand-fed last night and this morning. There has been some vomiting in the past after being fed tuna mixed with salmon canned food.Current meds: noneProphylaxis: UTD. NexGard SPECTRA monthly.Diet: Diet is varied and includes beef mince with green beans and corn, kibble mixed with wet food, and brands such as Prime100 and Lyka. Intermittent diarrhoea, likely secondary to frequent dietary changes.2. Picky eating behaviour, likely a learned behaviour.LABORATORY:NoneDIAGNOSTIC IMAGING:NoneDIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:Dietary indiscretion causing gastrointestinal upset.TREATMENT:- No medications administered in consult.PLAN:No procedures or follow-up appointments scheduled. Recommended to return if he becomes flat, if the diarrhoea restarts, or if any vomiting occurs.CLIENT COMMUNICATION:Discussed the likely cause of the intermittent diarrhoea is the frequent changes in diet. Advised the owner to select a stable, formulated diet and be consistent. It was explained that dogs do not require dietary variety and that rapid food changes can cause gastrointestinal upset. Advised that if a diet change is necessary, it should be done slowly over one to two weeks.Guidance was provided on managing the picky eating, which is likely a learned behaviour. Advised a "tough love" approach by offering the chosen food and not providing alternatives if it is refused. It was explained that missing a meal or two will not harm him and that he will eventually eat when hungry. Recommended discontinuing hand-feeding and stopping any dental treats for a few days to reinforce the new feeding routine. The owner was reassured that once he is eating his main meals consistently, treats can be reintroduced as occasional rewards rather than an expectation.Discussed body condition, which is ideal. Reassured the owner that he is not overweight, but that it is easy for this breed to gain weight, which is why a consistent, portion-controlled diet is beneficial. Advised the owner to follow the feeding guides on commercial dog food packaging.Vaccinations are up to date until July 2026. Vital Signs
