left hind injured leg down the beach about an hour ago. initially he was still running around on it but now doesn't want to put it down and its getting swollen. there is abrasion and swelling on the caudal aspect of the metatarsus just below the hock. there is also an area of erythema on the cranial aspect of the leg above the hock. not sure exactly how he hurt it he was running behind dunes with another dog.
very sore so couldn't get a good feel, not completely displaced but can't rule out a fracture either.
gave a quick clean with dilute chlorhex very tricky to hold for that and bandage.
owner wants to do conservative management over the weekend and will come back for xray on monday if still not putting it down. recommend this is done under GA as its very sore and we need to have a good feel. started an estimate in estimates. financial constraints.
0.35ml meloxicam sc
supply meloxicam and pregabalin to give at home over the weekend
also wanted to cover him with a prophylactic short course of antibiotics in case the skin wound extends to the bone but owner declined.
