07/03/2026 Presenting Complaint:
Intermittent mucus-covered stools for approximately 1 week.
One episode of vomiting yesterday.

Hx: BIB Suhil
Episode of mucus-covered stool first noted on 28/02/2026.
This occurred after introducing beef liver treats.
Treats were stopped, and stools improved for a couple of days.
Mucus-covered stools recurred yesterday and this morning.
Stools are otherwise normal consistency.
Bowel movements increased from 3 to 4 times per day.
The abnormal stool usually occurs around 11am.
One small vomit yesterday, which contained carrot.
Bright and happy in herself, eating and drinking normally, but appetite slightly reduced.
No scavenging behaviour, but may eat grass occasionally.
No access to communal water sources or puddles.
Lives in an apartment with no yard access.
Owner noted a lump at the spay incision site, which is resolving scar tissue from desexing surgery about a month ago. Suture material is still dissolving.

Diet:
A mix of Lyka (beef, lamb, chicken varieties) and delicate care puppy kibble.
Occasional treats of frozen pumpkin, yoghurt, and broccoli.
No new treats given since stopping the beef liver treats.

Medication:
Has one 16mg Cerenia tablet at home from a previous consult in January.

Parasite and Vaccination Preventive:
Previous notes indicate Symparica Trio monthly.

PEx:
Temperament: Bright, alert.
BCS: 4/9
MM: pink and moist, CRT: 1-2 sec
Mouth: NAD
eyes: NAD
ears: NAD
nose: NAD
Cardiovascular: HR: 130 Murmur: No
Respiratory: 40 lung sounds are normal
Lymph nodes: NAD
Abdominal Palpation: Soft, non-painful on palpation.
Skin/Coat: Spay scar healing well, some palpable suture material underneath which is normal.
Musculoskeletal: NAD
Genitalia: NAD
Rectal temperature: 38.6C

Assessment:
Intermittent large bowel diarrhoea (mucoid stools).
Mild gastroenteritis.
Possible dietary intolerance, potentially to beef.
The intermittent nature and presence of mucus suggest large intestinal inflammation. The dog is systemically well. Giardiasis is a differential, but less likely given the clinical signs.

Tx: trickle feed chicken variety of lykka only, Synbiotic DC 1sid 1-2 weeks

Plan:
Advised a bland diet for the next 3-4 days.
Feed only the chicken variety of Lyka. No kibble or other treats.
Feed small, frequent meals throughout the day instead of two large meals.
Start Synbiotic capsules, one capsule daily sprinkled on food. Continue for at least one week, can finish the box to help re-establish gut biome.
Advised owner they can use the 16mg Cerenia tablet at home if vomiting recurs, but not necessary at this stage.
If no improvement, the next step is to submit a faecal sample for parasite testing (including Giardia). Cost discussed (~$400).
Recommended a diet trial to identify potential protein intolerance. Suggest sticking to one protein variety of Lyka for 2 months, then switching to another to see if a particular protein triggers gastrointestinal upset.
A nurse will call early next week to check on progress.

Consult Summary:
Intermittent mucoid stools and one vomit.
Suspect mild gastroenteritis or dietary intolerance.
Plan is to feed a bland diet (chicken Lyka only) in small, frequent meals.
Dispensed Synbiotic capsules to be given once daily.
Recheck call scheduled for early next week.
If signs persist, a faecal test is the next step.
