CLINICAL HISTORY:Female neutered groodle, age not specified. Lump ventral chest LHSgrowing slightly, lipoma?SLIDES EXAMINED: 2/2, "Chest lump"CYTOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION:The smears are of low to moderate cellularity with scant blood andadequate cell preservation and staining. There are scatteredindividualised and aggregates large polyhedral cells which have a smallperipheralised nucleus and abundant clear cytoplasm (adipocytes). Othernucleated cells or diagnostic material are not present.INTERPRETATION:Aspiration of fatCOMMENT:If the sample is representative of the mass, the findings are suggestiveof a lipoma or lesion with fatty stroma. It should be noted that normalsubcutaneous fat has the same cytologic appearance as a lipoma andinadvertent aspiration of the subcutis adjacent to a separate masslesion is also possible. Suggest continued monitoring with re-evaluationof the mass, either via incisional/excisional biopsy or another FNA, ifthe assessment is inconsistent with the clinical impression, or if thereare changes in size or character.Reported by Dr Emma Gulliver, DACVPThank you for referring to Vetnostics.
