Reason: Wound On NeckAppointment Notes: Paws App Details:Booking Type: ConsultationBooking Vet: - Any -Booking Notes: We can see blood clotted on her neck behind left ear. Pet Insured: YesVerified: NoHISTORYPresenting for: Muffin presented for a wound that the owners suspect occurred approximately 2 weeks ago when she went into bushes chasing a ball and likely got poked by vegetation, possibly agave.Skin: Owners noticed the wound approximately 2 weeks ago. Patient has been scratching at the area and it appears to have worsened over time.Other: Patient is very active and loves chasing balls. Owners have many edges/bushes in their yard where the injury likely occurred.EXAMWt: 10 kgBehavioural: Patient was cooperative during examination but became somewhat reactive during wound cleaning and shaving procedures. Required restraint and distraction during treatment.Integumentary: Wound present with matted fur adhered to the area. Following shaving, wound revealed some discharge but appeared not too severe. Mild infection present underneath the matted fur. No other wounds identified on full body examination.ASSESSMENTInfected wound - likely secondary bacterial infection due to fur matting over the wound site restricting airflow and trapping discharge.PLANNew Meds/Tx:- Antibiotics (tablet form) - give 3/4 tablet BID for 7 days. Tablet has scoring lines for easy division. Start today and maintain 12-hourly dosing schedule.Additional Discussion:- Wound shaved and cleaned in clinic. Small amount of discharge noted during cleaning.- Area will be monitored for patient scratching behaviour. E-collar or socks may be needed if scratching occurs.- Pain relief not prescribed as patient did not appear uncomfortable during examination.- Topical cream not recommended due to risk of increased irritation and scratching.- Small amount of virgin coconut oil may be applied if desired, but discontinue if it encourages scratching.- Bandaging offered but declined - wound needs air circulation for proper healing.Client Comms:- Monitor closely for scratching behaviour, especially today as disinfectant may cause temporary stinging.- Watch for worsening discharge or deterioration of wound appearance.- Contact clinic if condition worsens or if patient shows signs of discomfort.- Be careful with collar/lead placement to avoid rubbing on wound site.
