Presented for ingestion of at least 5 onions this am. 
O made caramelised onion sauce. Dog pulled off stove top and ate. 2x dogs (other dog smaller). 
Bear been very unstable, very wobbly, heart beating fast. 

No V+ from either dog. 
No access to compost/mould/mushrooms. 

Had severe hepatopathy last year. 

Takes 12h-5d
Toxic 5g/kg=135g=1x medium onion

Temp 39.4. Nil on thermometer. ---> 37.8 @2am
Abdomen slightly tense

Mild eosinophilia
No obvious heinz bodies on smear

Biochem
Mild hyperalbuminaemia (dehydration)
Mildly reduced ALP 
Mildly increased bilirubin

Electrolytes

ASSESSMENT
Onion ingestion. 

PLAN
Admit for supportive care + monitoring 
Repeat temp q2h (stress vs muscle tremours)
Repeat PCV/TP + smear q 6-12h. Send off CBC?- repeat at 6am
Started on maintenance fluids. 
Maropitant if nauseas, bup if painful

COMMUNICATION
Discussed onion tox with Os (heinz body anaemia, can take up to 5d to show signs and up to 48h for anaemia to start. Os happy to admit for supportive care at this stage.

18/02/2026 SUBJECTIVE: Day 1 hospitalisation for onino ingestion

OBJECTIVE:
BAR anxious but no aggression shown
HR 108- 120 no murmur or arrhythmia
RR panting lung sound clear bilaterally 
MM pink and moist CRT <2secs
Abd soft and comfortable
Temp 38.3 

NOT eating
no vomiting/ regurg
passing some foul smelling softer stool

PCV/ TP 47/65 @ 10am 
--> dropped from 60/81 @ 10pm last night

in house blood smear @11am --> no heinz bodies noted

ASSESSMENT:
onion ingestion
- pending smear result from idexx
- PCV/ TP dropping but seems to be related to hydrating patient rather than going anaemic 

PLAN:
continue supportive care
pending idexx smear
repeat PCV/ TP q12-24hrs

TREATMENT 
LRS 100ml/hr 

COMMUNICATION:
advised O that Bear has been stable and PCV/ TP despite dropping, we are not concerned yet as likely due to correcting hydration
no further clinical signs. O happy for bloods to be sent off and monitor for extra night

ASSESSMENT:
onion ingestion - no clinical signs 

MEDICATIONS:
- Hartmann's 100 ml/h

PLAN:
home today, repeat CBC or PCV/TP in 3-4 days to be cautious. sooner if any signs of lethargy, vomiting, inapp, etc

COMMUNICATION:
STO (Sueanne) @ 9:35am, Bear is BAR and eating well. would recommend monitoring at home. recheck bloods in 3-4 days if concerned. advised blood sent off to lab yesterday showed no abnormalities. O asked if it would be repeated today - advised we could but wouldn't expect any changes. D/C 2pm
