When O got into bed, RR (eyes closed, but likely not deep asleep as O talking on phone) was about 55. Stayed quite high through the night. <br>No inc effort. No nasal discharge etc. </span></div> <div><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">O had vid chat with vet last night and resp looked like no effort etc - see notes. <br>Happy in herself. When running around this morning, <br>THis AM began with some coughs that lead to a hack this morning 4-5 times. Not something she does. <br>DUDE all fine, otherwise well. <br><br><strong>EXAMINATION</strong>:<strong><br></strong>BAR<br>Ausc - no arrhythmia audible at all. HR 128. RR approx 48-54 in cons. No inc effort, is alert and listening to reception etc. Norm BV lung sounds, no crackles or wheezing and no ic effort. <br>no cough here, or nasal/ocular discharge<br>Abdo palp, lnn, e/e/n, integ ok. <br>T 39.1<br><br><strong>DIAGNOSIS</strong>:<strong><br></strong>Poss early URTI<br>Mild pyrexia<br>Have heard arrhytmia once before - not audible today <br><br><strong>TREATMENT</strong>: <strong><br></strong>No meds<br><br><strong>PLAN</strong>: <br>O happy to monitor for now - discussed signs to look out for. If worsening, persisting, or changing symptoms, call in and let us know or see back. <br>Recheck heart again in about 3mo and if no audible arrhythmia, just monitor. <br><strong>Reminders updated: </strong>yes/no</span></div> </div></html>

History:Lucy, 4 year old, female spayed, French Bulldog.Edwina called this evening concerned about Lucy, who was observed to have a respiratory rate of 55 breaths per minute while at rest.Lucy's behaviour was reported as normal throughout the day. She had taken herself to bed before Edwina returned home. Upon going to bed herself, Edwina noticed Lucy's breathing was faster than usual. Lucy did not appear to be in any distress and there was no associated coughing or panting.It was noted that a potential cardiac murmur was detected during a general check-up at her regular clinic three months prior.During the video consultation, Lucy was observed to be resting comfortably. There was no abdominal effort or marked increase in respiratory effort associated with her breathing, although short, sharp breaths were noted.Advice given:It was discussed with Edwina that an increased respiratory rate can be caused by numerous factors. These include a blocked upper respiratory tract, cardiac concerns, primary lung conditions, nausea, pain, dreaming during sleep, and pleural effusion, among other possibilities.As Lucy is currently resting comfortably, with no increased respiratory effort or signs of distress, it was advised that she can be monitored at home this evening. However, a follow-up examination at her regular veterinarian tomorrow was strongly recommended to allow for her chest to be auscultated. It was noted that the absence of coughing is a positive sign, as cardiac-related respiratory issues often (but not always) present with a cough.Edwina was advised to continue monitoring Lucy tonight for the development of any increased breathing effort, coughing, signs of distress, or an inability to sleep.
