Now it is lighter and watery.Owner has observed reddish colour and jelly-like mucus in the stool.Defecating multiple times per day, which is an increase in frequency.Freeda had two episodes of liquid vomit after being started on a chicken and rice diet.Parasite Prevention: Worming dueCurrent Diet: Normal diet is RC dry food. Currently on a bland diet of rice, with reduced portion sizes.EXAMINATION:Demeanour/Behaviour: Bright and alert, friendly.Oral: mm pink moist, good refill: grade 0LN: none palpableCardiovascular: Heart rate 80 bpm, cardiac auscultation normal, no murmur audible.Respiratory: thoracic auscultation clear, normal BV sounds.Gastrointestinal:- Abdominal: no detectable pain on abdominal palpation, comfortable.- colon feels a bit ropey. - Large bowel diarrhoea. No vomiting today.Body Condition Score: 6/9 (Ideal)Weight: 27.3kg (previously 30.4kg)Hydration status (%): well hydratedTemperature: 38.3°CASSESSMENT:Acute large bowel diarrhoea (colitis) in two cohabiting dogs.Clinical signs include increased frequency, straining, mucus, and fresh blood in stool.Examination findings are largely unremarkable. Both dogs are afebrile, bright, and hydrated.The cause is likely dietary indiscretion, given the history and that both dogs are affected.Infectious cause considered less likely as both are afebrile.TREATMENT:Pro-Kolin+ 5ml orally twice daily for 3 days for each dog.PLAN and CLIENT COMMUNICATION:Continue with a bland diet (their normal dry food with some rice), fed in small, frequent meals.
