Appointment Reason: NQR, Appointment Notes: very sore somehwere, squealing cm History:Owner concerns: was last normal yesterday morning, ate breakfast and seemed ok. Last night he was a bit quiet and didn't want to jump on the bed like he always does. Looking back, O doesn't think he ate all of his dinner either, which is unlike him. This morning he didn't want to jump off the bed, so O lifted him down and he yelped. Every time O picked him up he was yelping. Didn't want to move at all. Didn't eat breakfast. Not seen any vomiting or diarrhoea. He is normally very active and jumps on and off the bed, runs up the stairs. Did bump him with the vacuum cleaner yesterday, but otherwise can't think of any incident. No V/D/C/SMedications: noneExamine:QAR, yelped when picked up onto the table, good for exam Cardiorespiratory: no murmurs or arrhythmias appreciated, pulses normal, lung fields clearAbdominal palpation: comfortable, no masses or organomegaly appreciatedMouth: mild generalised tartarEars: NADEyes: NADInteg: NADLNs: NADMSK/neuro: hunched in lumbar spine while standing, reluctant to walk in consult. Whimpered palpating over lumbar spine. Normal cranial nerves, normal neck manipulation. Normal movement and CPs in all limbs. Comfortable elsewhere over spine  Assessment:Back pain (ddx IVDD vs other) Plan:Discussed the following options:1) Refer to specialist for advanced imaging and management2) Admit into hospital for bloods and pain relief. O elected option 2. Given methadone 0.23ml IM @12:40pmBlood taken for haematology, chem17, SDMA, lytes and CRPLaboratory:Haematology: MCH high (26.4, rr 21.2-25.9) Retic HGB high (32.1, rr 22.3-29.6) All else WNLBiochemistry: All WNLTreatment:02/03/2026 1:55:02 PM TN:TN called and spoke to Zoran. Benji has had some response to methadone so far, moving better and not yelping when picked up. Bloods are all good. Gave options of:1) Referral for further imaging +/- surgery if indicated2) Conservative management with crate rest and pain reliefO elected option 2Will start with onsior and strict crate rest, warned O that needs immediate r/v if any loss of mobility or increase in pain. R/v 1 week, sooner if concernsGiven onsior 0.75ml SCRx onsior 10mg PO SID 14 daysRx gabapentin 100mg PO BID #100
