Hx: ?????SUMMARY* Recheck of a facial abscess on a 3-year-old DSH, which has now ruptured following a fight with a neighbour's cat.* Diagnosis of a resolving cat bite abscess, draining well.* The abscess was flushed with Betadine. Plan to test for FIV in 8 weeks and vaccinate if negative.HISTORY* Presented for a recheck of a facial abscess that has now burst.* The abscess resulted from a fight with a neighbour's cat.* Owner reports significant improvement in appetite and demeanour since the abscess ruptured.* Previously treated with an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injection.EXAMDemeanour: BARAmbulation: normalEyes: eyes clear, no signs of conjunctivitis, pupils symmetrical and normal sizeMucous membranes: moist, pink, CRT < 2secMouth - No lesions or bruising visualised inside mouth. Skin: Ruptured facial abscess, draining freely with no significant swelling. A small, non-penetrating scab is present on the contralateral side of the face.Heart: heart and lungs auscultated. Normal rate, rhythm and soundsAbdomen: abdominal palpation normal, no pain or obvious masses identifiedLymph nodes: normal sizeOther:ASSESSMENT* Resolving cat bite abscess, healing well post-rupture.* Potential exposure to Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).PLAN* Abscess flushed three times with Betadine solution.* Monitor wound at home; advise owner to keep it open to allow for continued drainage.* Recheck in 7-14 days only if concerns arise (e.g. swelling recurs).* Recommend FIV snap test for Bonnie and housemate cat, Jonah, in a minimum of 8 weeks.* If FIV tests are negative, recommend commencing an FIV vaccination course for both cats.* Wormers to be dispensed.CLIENT COMMUNCIATION* Discussed that surgery is not required as the abscess is draining well and should heal with current management.* Advised that the wound will continue to discharge and must not be covered.* Explained the risk of FIV transmission from unvaccinated outdoor cats.* Outlined the FIV vaccination protocol (course of 3 injections) if tests are negative.????? Appointment Notes: This AM, one side of face is swollen,  doesn't seem to be sore.  off her food last night.  toileting good, not sure about drinking.  CGWas originally booked for 4:50pm. O called back and said gums still  pink and Bonnie breathing fine. Just slightly lethargic. Moved appt earlier in the day LD History: ?????SUMMARY* 3-year-old DSH presented with acute unilateral facial swelling, lethargy and pyrexia following a recent altercation with another cat.* Tentative diagnosis of a cat bite abscess.* Treated with an injectable long-acting antibiotic and a liquid anti-inflammatory. Plan for surgical drainage if no improvement in 48 hours.HISTORY* Unilateral facial swelling noted this morning.* Slightly lethargic and inappetent yesterday.* Ate and drank this morning; toileting normally.* History of a fight with a neighbour's cat.* Known congenital condition, likely cerebellar hypoplasia, causing a persistent head tilt.* Known to regurgitate tablets.EXAMDemeanour: Quiet but alert.Body condition score: /9.
