The owner was informed that Charkou may be sleepy tonight but should return to normal diet and activity by tomorrow. Counselling was provided on food toxicities in dogs. It was explained that grape toxicity is idiosyncratic, not breed-specific, and can cause severe kidney failure. The recent scientific understanding of grape toxicity was discussed. A comparison was made with chocolate toxicity, which is dose-dependent and varies by type (dark chocolate being more toxic than milk chocolate, and white chocolate not being toxic).
